Online Eye Test:
Do
you have frequent headaches?
Do
your eyes fatigue often?
You
could need corrective lenses.
We
have developed 4 tests that you can perform right at
your computer. These tests may indicate that you are
nearsighted or farsighted and if you have an
astigmatism or eye health issues.
Please choose the test that you would like to take
or try all four! Remember that these tests do not
replace professional eye exams. The intent of these
tests is to give you an idea if you need corrective
eyewear.
Distance:
To assess if you are nearsighted and need glasses
for distance please stand approximately 2 meters
from your computer screen and remove any glasses
that you may be currently wearing.
1- Cover your left eye and read as many of the rows
of letters below as possible, writing the answers as
you proceed.
2- Cover your right eye and read as many of the rows
of the letters below as possible, writing the
answers as you proceed.
3- Using both eyes read as many of the rows of
letters below as possible, writing the answers as
you proceed.
If you were able to read all of the letters above
you have 20/20 vision, however you may still need
glasses for optimal acuity. If you missed any of the
letters in this test, it may be an indication you
would fail a driver's license eye examination and
therefore need glasses for driving.
Also, if you can see "clearly" in the distance but
you experience fatigue, pain, double vision, tearing
or any unusual symptoms may be indicative of
refractive problems. One such problem may be
astigmatism.

Reading:
The test you are about to take should help you
pinpoint the reading magnification that you need.
Please note that this test assumes that you have
20/20 distance vision.

Astigmatism:
To assess if you have astigmatism, please take this
test while seated at your computer. The purpose of
this test is to determine if all the spokes on the
wheel are equally black using the figure below.
1- Cover your left eye and stare at the figure below
noting the lines connecting 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.
2- Try to determine if any part of the line appears
darker and/or blacker. If the answer is yes you may
have astigmatism.
3- Cover your right eye and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Astigmatism is a refractive problem, which is
corrective with glasses or contact lenses, and
generally causes some blur more in one direction
than the others. It can also be the cause of
headaches and eye fatigue.
Again this is a rough test and you may have
astigmatism even if the lines appear equally black.
Conversely, you may not have astigmatism if the
lines appeared unequally black. Please make an
appointment for a professional eye exam to be sure.
Eye Health:
This is a quick test you can take that may reveal an
eye health problem. For this test you should wear
your reading glasses (if you have them) and stay
seated at your computer.
While looking at the following grid, please ask
yourself the following questions:
1- Do you see the black spot in the center of the
chart?
2- Keeping your gaze fixed upon the black spot in
the center, can you see all four sides of the
square?
3- Keeping your gaze fixed upon the black spot in
the center, can you see all of the lines within the
square? Are there interruptions, holes, spots or
blurriness?
4- Keeping your gaze fixed upon the black spot in
the center, are all of the lines perfectly
horizontal and vertical? Is every square equal in
size?
5- Keeping your gaze fixed upon the black spot in
the center can you see any movements of certain
lines or vibrating lines?
